Dubai Healthcare City & Boston U. Ink Deal
Forbes has a report which states that Dubai Healthcare City and BU's School of Dental Medicine have a signed a preliminary agreement to operate an institute at Dubai Healthcare City focusing on research, training and treatment."Dubai Healthcare City was launched three years ago in cooperation with Harvard Medical School. The aim of the 19 million-square-foot, half-billion dollar project is to build a world-class health care and training facility for residents of the Persian Gulf.
Dubai Healthcare City officials estimate that Persian Gulf residents spent $25 billion annually traveling abroad for medical treatment."
Oh-oh. That means a cool $25 billion of medical tourism lost. Since most of the Gulf residents go to Singapore, Malaysia and the United States for treatment, guess who's going to be missing all the petro-dollars? Yup - They sell us oil, and now they don't even want to pay us having their a nose job. They want to do it locally. With a technological marvel like the healthcare city in their backyard, I reckon Dubai will be a major destination for medical tourists, especially Muslims. Maybe they'll offer discounts in the duty free shops to anyone who gets a facelift.
In other news, a woman in North Carolina is trying to put Caliornia's dentists out of business, by turning on the homesy charm and offering Bed & Dental. Says Jean Roznik, "My husband, a dentist, has been offering service virtually free, for years, to family and friends. We've hosted personal trainers, dairy workers and ministers.
"Would it be okay if I came for a long weekend and a. . . root canal?" is the kind of plaintive phone call we sometimes receive. "Sure," my husband says, "we'd love to see you and your cavity."
I refer to our market niche as a Bed & Dental getaway. We offer crisp sheets, a home-cooked breakfast, followed by a relaxing session in the dental chair."
Is it possible to use 'relaxing session' and 'dental chair' in the same sentence?
I have been looking into the Meza Dental Care Clinic in Costa Rica, run by one Dr. Alberto Meza. He's got some nice testimonials listed from his patients, so I sent a few of them some emails, to find out what Alberto is really like. Well...See for yourself.
Steve Hartman, Talkshow host - The more I think about Dr. Meza and his staff.......the more I want to go back to Costa Rica. They were all wonderful and my comments were totally accurate. I don't think I've ever been so thrilled with a doctor.
Hmmm....check that! I had a surgeon who put me in the VA's experimental laser program for testing which resulted in an urbian laser peel, upper and lower face lift. For ten years I was pretty thrilled...and looked simply mah-vee-luss.... but it hurt a hell of a lot more than Dr. Meza did. Now there's a doc who knows how to give novacaine. LOL!
You also have my permission to use any of my comments you so desire. And if you need dental work, I can't think of any one you'd be in better hands with that Alberto.
Sparrow Mahoney, CEO, MedicalTourism.com - My comments were very accurate. They are a first rate clinic.
I think Alberto must have some divine gifts to inspire such devotion from his patients. I think I'll save the rest of the replies for another post....
Update: Dr. Alberto Meza sent me a mail and here's what he has to say about himself and his dental clinic. "I would just like to add that we have been selected by Discovery Travel and living (Latin America) as one of the top five medical tourism destinations in Latin America being the only one dental facility. They came to us and did a shooting last May. The name of the TV show is Top Five and our part will be airing this month.
We have also been selected by Harvard School of Business, Mastership Program, to be in one of their case studies. They had visited many health facilities along the world and they picked us for this study because our outstanding work on this type of business.
If you would like to know more about us do not hesitate to contact me.
Respectfully.
Alberto Meza D.D.S.
Director"
