Going for vacation? No. Operation!
The St. Petersburg Times takes a look at a Boca Raton based Insurance company, United Group Programs, which has begun providing insurance packages to employers which covers treatment overseas. And there's also one more interesting tid-bit.
Also in the works is the formation of the first Medical Tourism Association, said Jonathan Edelheit, the group's vice president of sales.
The association will certify and credential medical tourism companies which are multiplying by the day, Edelheit said.
"There are probably hundreds of companies around the country that are providing it and there will probably be tens of thousands within the next 12 months," Edelheit said.
Where do I sign up? Do I get a framed certificate or something, which I can hang on a wall next to the lion I shot on my 'Surgeon and Safari' holiday? Um...That was with a zoom lens, and it's a framed picture. If any of you have been to a medical tourism holiday in Africa or India, I have a question for you - Does a lion have flies buzzing around his ears? All right, take it easy. Its a slow news cycle, and I don't have anything much to write about.
Besides, Josef Woodman launched the Singapore special edition of Patients Beyond Borders on July 23rd 2007. I was supposed to cover the whole thing for this blog, but Mr. Woodman copped out, and he says that he has no comment, no photographs and no videos of aforementioned book launch event. Kindof funny that, considering that the event was specifically held so that the media would then publish comments, pictures and videos. Anyway, so I'm stuck with making lame jokes about African lions and you'll have to wait a short time ( well, maybe not so short... ) while we sort out the logistical hitches and publish the next in our series of interviews with leading personalities in the medical tourism industry. Stay tuned.
