Beauty and the beach

The Toronto Star has a new article titled Beauty and the beach, which I guess you could call a more accurate take on medical tourism in Thailand, since the freelance writer who wrote the piece, Greg Jorgensen, actually lives in Thailand.

"But if your co-worker comes back from vacation with a new head of hair, a larger bust or minus that pesky heart condition that made them wheeze on the way to the water cooler, they've most likely taken advantage of what is emerging as a booming global trend – medical tourism (MT)."

The MT reminds me, that 6 months ago, it meant medical transcription. Now its medical tourism. What's next? Anyway, what Jorgensen has done here is basically interview Curtis Schroeder, CEO of Bumrungrad International and Austin Brentley, who runs healthmedicaltourism.org. Money quote? Schroeder predicts that medical tourism to Asia could easily quintuple over the next five years.

And in more medical tourism news, Newswire has been fishing in the same pond that we have. Namely, an article on the economics of medical tourism, based on Dr. Milica Bookman's research and book Medical tourism in Developing Countries.

Hotel Interactive explores a niche within a niche. Marion Edward writes about the growth of hospitality healthcare, as a specific niche within medical tourism, where hoteliers are setting up in-house facilities to cater to medical tourists.
